PLACES AND SPACES IN ART: A Program of Activities on Architecture and Landscape Design

Places and Spaces in Art is a unique interdisciplinary resource for art specialist and classroom teachers. In this introductory program, the concepts of place and space are taught as they relate to where people meet, play, work and live, as well as the making of art. Students are introduced to architecture and landscape design in visual art and in their community. The built environment is presented as subject matter for artists and as an artistic mode that deals with the design of interior and exterior spaces. Using Places and Spaces, students will better understand their role as knowledgeable citizens and come to appreciate our rich heritage of environmental design.

Program Description:

- Contains three separate sets, each spanning three grades: Primary (K-2), Elementary (3-5), Middle (6-8).

- Addresses five environmental design themes at each grade:

• buildings
• interiors
• planning
• landscape
• preservation

Each set includes:

• A Teacher's Guide organized in 15 theme-based model lessons spanning three grades;
• 15 laminated 18" x 22 3/4" (45.8 cm x 56.5 cm) fine art prints from the Art Image collection;
• A plastic storage portfolio.

Each Teacher's Guide:

• Is organized by grade;
• Includes 5 themes for each grade;
• Provides a model lesson for each theme. Lessons are correlated to 5 art reproductions illustrating the environmental design, art concepts, and the theme.

Supplemental Portfolio: a set of 15 laminated color photographs 8" x 10" (20.3 cm x 25.4 cm) of actual architectural and landscape details support and complement the model lessons.
